How to choose the right 10X50 binoculars?

Binoculars

If you’re an avid hiker, birder, or love the outdoors and need a good pair of binoculars to watch the game, then 10×50 binoculars are a great choice.

The “size” of the 10X50 binoculars is not only perfect for stargazing and wildlife but also portable and can be used without a tripod.  With so many different types to choose from, how can you be sure you’re getting the best one?

1. Basic concepts to understand when choosing binoculars

You’ve probably learned something about the 10×50 binoculars that have to provide some of the important features.  The numbers associated with the binoculars are already clear, with the first telling you the magnification and the second telling you the end diameter.  There are some other points to consider.

10X50 binoculars

(1) Prismatic

These binoculars use two different types of prisms.  One is the Polo prism and the other is the roof prism.  Porro prisms have two right-angle prisms that face each other and do not align the eyepiece with the objective lens.

The roof prism can be two prisms with a gap or two v-shaped connected prisms.  Porro is less durable, and the ridge prism is brighter but less clear than Porro.

If you are going to be on the move all the time, then choose the ridge prism because it is more durable.  It is also a good choice for dark conditions such as astronomy and stargazing.  Porro, on the other hand, is clearer.  It’s a better choice for birding and hunting.

(2) The lens coating

Different types of lens coatings are available.  These include coatings, multilayer coatings, full coatings, full multilayer coatings, and phase coatings.  Fully coated (best for general purpose) lenses reduce light loss more than coated lenses.

Multilayer coated lenses (best for hunting and birding) are used to cover wider wavelengths on the lens surface.  Fully multi-coated (best for rowing) lenses reduce reflection and refraction over the entire wavelength range.  Phase coating (best for astronomy) improves the opacity of the image produced by the prism of the roof.

(3) Relieve eye

This is the distance between the focus and the eye.  If you use glasses, your binos will focus the image behind the eye distance.  It will significantly improve clarity.  For people wearing glasses, you need to have an eye distance of more than 16mm.

(4) Material

You are best to choose high-quality materials such as hard rubber, leather, aluminum, and silicon.  Different manufacturers use different combinations of these materials.  If you plan to use your binos outdoors.  But for a lot of exercises, your binos need to be impact-resistant.

(5) Field of vision

Usually expressed in meters or yards, it is the width of your binoculars views from end to end.  If the magnification is high and the objective is small, the FoV will be wider.  For 10 x 50 binoculars, the recommended FoV is 6 to 8 degrees.

2. Apexel’s best 10X50 binoculars.

The Apexel 10-30×50 binoculars have a larger field of view at 10-30 magnification combined with a 56mm objective, ideal for scanning open areas.  This is definitely one of the best binoculars for viewing from a distance.

10X50 binoculars

There’s no problem holding them and keeping the image stable, but they’re easy to mount on a tripod if you want.  As high-powered binoculars used primarily for hunting, it also excelled in a variety of other situations and uses: these would be well suited for medium and long-range security surveillance, wildlife observation, and even bird watching at a distance, such as on coasts where birds usually perch a little further away.

Apexel 10-30×50 Binoculars features:

50MM large aperture: The larger the aperture/more incoming light/clearer the image.

FMC multi-layer broadband green film: high light transmittance, effectively reduce the refractive index of light, image clear, sharp, transparent

Metal frame + rubber: metal frame design, high strength earthquake resistance.  Can greatly increase the service life of the telescope.

BAK7 prism: the image is brighter and more transparent, without dark edges.  Special prism structure, each reflecting surface of the prism belongs to total reflection, less light loss.  BAK7 prism can effectively reduce astigmatism and double image and improve light transmittance

Connected tripod: Connected tripod is shake-proof for more stable viewing and enjoying the different fields of view.
