Pros and cons of using a macro lens to shoot portraits

Apexeloptic2021-12-29T02:38:01+00:00
Macro Lens

When you plan to shoot people, what lens do you consider? 90 mm, 56 mm, or 35 mm? These are one of the most commonly used photo lenses. In fact, some professional digital photographers want to use macro lenses to shoot portraits, and macro lenses are one of the first choices of passionate and professional photographers.

For many people, macro lenses free up their careers as professional digital photographers, and so do I. Therefore, I bought a 100mm high-definition mobile phone camera super macro lens. Before I started to experiment with portraits, I quickly used it to shoot objects, which quickly left natural digital photography in my rearview mirror. But what are the pros and cons of using a macro lens to shoot portraits? Let’s learn together.

1. What are the pros and cons of using a macro lens to shoot portraits?

A true 1:1 macro lens can develop stunning photo lenses in a variety of ways. This is especially important for professional digital photographers, whose main goal is to shoot portraits.

(1) Information-rich macro lens

As a lens designed to record the finest information, a macro lens is believed to be able to record some of the clearest information. When focusing on factors, a good macro lens will definitely solve the intensity that several lenses can adapt. This helps to develop very neat, clear photos and generate small imprints.

(2) Macro lenses generally have excellent focal lengths

Many macro lenses on the market have excellent focal length stability and telephoto properties, which can produce pleasant portraits. One of the most common macro focal lengths is 100 mm.

(3) The macro lens is concentratedly closed

Have you ever encountered such a situation: your electronic camera cannot successfully find the focus when shooting with a normal lens? The problem I often encounter is that my target structure is just a better tip compared to my shooting permit. With a macro lens, the problem disappeared. When taking photos, you can never break the limit of how much a macro lens can focus.

2. What are the disadvantages of personal macro digital photography?

Macro lenses also have some considerable shortcomings, which should not be ignored when reviewing whether they can be your documentary lens.

(1) The macro lens is dark

Generally, at the same focal length, macro lenses tend to be darker than non-macro lenses. The fastest macro prime number on the market is f/2.8. This problem is made worse by the 1:1 macro lens, which loses its optimal aperture when it is better focused compared to infinity.

(2) The macro lens is sluggish

Several macro lenses provide a button to limit the density change to help reduce this problem, but the fact that actually has a larger density change is that the lens has a larger inspection change to ensure autofocus. This shows that if you autofocus quickly and accurately at first, the macro lens may disappoint you. Among the macro lenses I have, I find that the accuracy of autofocus tends to be lower than similar non-macro fixed-focus lenses.

(3) Macro lens is expensive

Macro lenses are manufactured exclusively for suppliers and are available in small quantities, which shows that they allow you to spend more on manufacturing and spend much less time in the market. This shows that they usually have a higher cost (there are exceptions, such as the Apexel website, which sells macro lenses at very reasonable prices).

Macro lenses can take great portrait photos or bad portrait photos, depending on your needs or the priority of a given shooting. When deciding which portrait lens to buy, keep in mind which of the above factors are most important to you, and you will be able to easily determine whether a macro lens is right for you.

FAQ:

Can I take portraits with a macro lens?

Macro lenses can not only be used for portrait photography, but some photographers also particularly like macro lenses because they have limited close focus capabilities with traditional lenses. Macro lenses allow them to get closer to the subject.

Can I take portraits with a 100mm macro lens?

The best lens for most portrait photography macro lenses is around 90 mm or 100 mm.

Is it worth buying a macro lens?

Is a macro lens worth considering as your next lens? It’s definitely worth it because it’s not just for macro photography. If you want to try macro while using several other types of photography to expand your options, then a macro lens may be the right choice for you.

When will you use a macro lens?

The macro lens allows you to take clear, detailed close-up photos of small objects such as flowers, plants, insects, and products. A macro lens is a camera lens designed for shooting small objects at close range.

Does macro photography need a macro lens?

Macro photography is probably one of the most satisfying types of photo production. The macro lens is specially designed for taking close-up photos. If you want excellent quality and true macro magnification, you need to invest in a special lens. The most common lens is in the 100mm focal length range.
